Today’s Guardian reports how Boris Johnson has slashed funding to festivals and community events in London, whilst topping up his new “USA Day” by £25,000 to a total of £100,000.
Labour Assembly Member Jennette Arnold said: “The Mayor has made a clear choice to cut multicultural events in favour of a USA Day. Londoners will decide which is more deserving of their taxes: multicultural festivals like Rise or a day promoting the most dominant culture in the western world. While of course America has a lot worth celebrating, I’m fairly sure Americans come to London to celebrate the city’s unique and diverse qualities rather than to take part in some home-from-home event in Trafalgar Square.”
