David Cameron, who once proclaimed that a vote for the Conservatives was a vote to “go green”, used a helicopter to fly from London to Norwich to attend a meeting about biofuel research, it was revealed today. Little more than 100 miles away, Norwich is easily accessible by train, and has led to criticism from campaigners in the Norwich North by-election. The meeting at the University of East Anglia lasted for about 20 minutes.
It’s not the first time that the Tory leader has been embarrassed by his use of a helicopter. Last year, he was reprimanded for failing to register the donation of a relative’s helicopter to the Electoral Commission. Mr Cameron used step-father-in-law Viscount William Astor’s aircraft during his 2005 bid for the party leadership at the cost of £7,000.
