David Cameron has gone to great lengths to convince the voters that the NHS is safe in Tory hands, but the real face of Conservative hostility to the NHS continues to undermine his claims.
First it was Tory MEP Dan Hannan slagging off the Health Service on American TV, then another Conservative MEP, Dr Tannock, suggested that people should be charged £10 to see a doctor. Both were publicly distanced by Cameron, but both remain elected Conservative spokespeople and neither have been disciplined.
It’s not the first time this year that Conservatives have suggested charging to see a GP, though the price suggested by Dr Tannock is half the previous suggestion of a £20 fee made by a Tory ‘think tank’.
Labour List has more on the latest Conservative’s call for NHS fees, including a video of the MEP saying it.
