Michael Crick, BBC Newsnight’s political editor, has revealed leaked minutes of a high-level Conservative Party meeting which reveals that Conservative Central Office have created a “watch list’ of Parliamentary candidates who might cause the Party embarrassment.
The minutes also show that there is some unease with some local Conservative Associations, which further reinforces Labour’s criticism that David Cameron hasn’t fundamentally changed the Party in the same way that Neil Kinnock and Tony Blair changed Labour.
Michael Crick writes: “The Conservative Party high command is so worried about some of David Cameron’s Parliamentary candidates that they’ve started holding meetings every two weeks to monitor what they call a “watch-list” of those “have the potential to embarrass the Party”.
This is revealed in the minutes – leaked to Newsnight – of a meeting of senior national officials – the party’s deputy chairmen and vice chairmen – held on 28 October last year.”
