Careless talk costs votes, David Cameron tells his shadow cabinet

The Independent reports that David Cameron has warned his shadow cabinet to be careful what they say about the economy:

“Careless talk costs votes, David Cameron told his Shadow Cabinet as he tried to head off Labour claims that his party is uncaring by telling frontbenchers to stop making insensitive remarks about the recession…

Labour has exploited a string of Tory gaffes, accusing the party of wanting to “let the recession take its course”, a phrase used by John Maples, a Tory deputy chairman, who later apologised.”

The article makes no mention of Andrew Lansley’s comments that “on many counts, recession can be good for us” or Edward Leigh MP who wrote on a right-wing blog (which was swiftly deleted after publicity) about Labour’s VAT cut, saying “how will it help the poor to give them a few more pence off consumer items they don’t need?”, but by all means read the full article.
