Having lost £17 million in their reckless gamble investing in Icelandic banks, times are hard at Conservative controlled Westminster City Hall. At least that’s the impression given by a missive concerning breakfasts at Licensing Sub-committee meetings, a copy of which has been sent to Labour Matters:
“I write to advise that due to a scaling down of the refreshment facilities at Council House it will no longer be possible to provide croissants and fruit at Licensing Sub Cttee meetings. Sandwiches will be available at meetings which go onto lunch time.
I shall arrange for biscuits to be available for the callovers.
Sorry.
Mick Steward
Deputy Head of Committee Secretariat
Department of Legal & Administrative Services”
Quite how many breakfasts it would take to make up for the £17 million lost in Iceland is not known.
