A senior Tory MEP recently expelled from the Conservative Party for opposing the embrace of questionable right-wing groups in Europe, spills the beans in an exclusive interview in the Sunday Telegraph:
“Mr McMillan-Scott, referring to the Downing Street spin doctor who was dismissed for spreading rumours about the private lives of senior Tories, said:
“There are elements of Damian McBride-ism about what is being done to me.
“It is innuendo and hints. A week before I was smeared, David Cameron was putting out statements saying the Tories would not use negative campaigning tactics.
“But I know there was an attempt by eight Conservative press officers to smear me.
“I think I’m being made an example of by David Cameron in the run-up to a general election.
“No one else apart from Derek Conway has been thrown out of the party, even those with the most terrible expense claims scandals. I am really shocked by this.”
