An ex-Liberal Democrat Councillor, who had been a member of the Party for 25 years has applied to join the Labour Party in protest of the ruling Liberal Democrats in the area has failed to invest in deprived areas.
Jamil Munir explained: “I am embarrassed and ashamed that the Lib Dem Party in Pendle has become so damaged and dysfunctional.”
Pendle Labour Group leader, Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, said: “For more than 15 years Jamil has worked tirelessly for the people of Pendle. He is a man of great ability and experience and I’m delighted he is applying to join the Labour Party. This is a tremendous boost for Labour in Pendle on the back of our successes in the May local elections.”
Labour said the ruling party had been left in total disarray after losing seven seats at May’s elections, despite retaining the majority on the executive committee.
