A former Liberal Democrat councillor in Bolton has now joined the Labour Party after describing the the organisation of the Lib Dems locally “a complete joke” and sitting as an independent since April. Richard Silvester had been a Liberal Democrat councillor for the Smithills ward since 2004.
At a council meeting last week Mr Silvester proposed a motion praising the Labour administration for introducing free school meals and swimming lessons for children, and criticised the Liberal Democrats for their opposition.
Labour councillor Sean Hornby, said: “We are delighted. Councillor Silvester has been unhappy for quite some time with the Liberal Democrats.”
