Gordon’s not airbrushed, sometimes he’s not even hairbrushed!

Peter Mandelson today used a BBC interview to highlight the difference between Gordon Brown’s policies and David Cameron’s “airbrushed” public image, saying:

“Look, I say this about Gordon Brown. There’s no airbrushing Gordon Brown like David Cameron did. It’s sometimes difficult to hairbrush Gordon Brown. But I think that, you know I understand that people don’t connect with him in some cases or, or relate to him but what I would say about Gordon Brown is that people have got to judge him not for what he isn’t but for what he believes, what he stands for and what he’s doing for the country, and the direction in which he wants to take us. I think that when people judge him on those grounds, they may well come to a very different conclusion.

“Look, you know he’s not a sort of TV personality. He’s not sort of Terry Wogan or Des O’Connor in the way that some people see David Cameron. Gordon Brown is actually a rather more authentic figure than that and I think when people evaluate the relative merits of both leaders, they may well come to a different conclusion from the one people are assuming now.”
