The political editor of The Sun claims that he made the decision to back the Tories after hearing Gordon Brown’s speech, but the numbers are in and (surprise!) The Sun is wrong.
Having already received a 5% boost from the first couple of days of the ‘fightback’ conference, Labour has now closed the gap with the Tories to just 7% today according to the YouGov tracker poll. So far Labour’s conference has HALVED the Conservatives’ lead.
That’s because, despite what The Sun editor thinks, Gordon Brown’s speech was very well received by those polled – two-thirds though it “good” or “excellent” and another 22% though it was “fair”. Only 15 people in a hundred thought it “poor” or “bad”.
The Lib Dems had a car crash of a conference, Labour’s had a very very good one.
The fightback starts here!
