Liverpool Lib Dem found guilty of breaking election law for smearing Labour rival
The Liverpool Echo reports that:
“A leading Liberal Democrat who posted leaflets smearing a Labour rival and her husband has been found guilty of breaching election law.
Cllr Steve Hurst delivered pink leaflets supposedly from the United Socialist Party (TUSP) claiming Cllr Pauline Walton left meetings early “to go lap dancing” and her fireman husband Keith was a “scab” during firefighters’ strikes.
He was found guilty of breaking election law at Liverpool magistrates’ court and fined £500.
Hurst’s defence included a host of character references from fellow politicians, including council leader Warren Bradley and deputy Lord Mayor Mike Storey.”
Liverpool Labour Councillor Louise Baldock has more information.
