“A Tory Welsh Assembly member who referred to Italians as “greasy wops” was today reinstated as a General Election candidate.
Alun Cairns stood down as shadow education minister in the Assembly after making the comment on a live radio discussion programme when talking about the Euro 2008 football tournament.
The Conservatives today announced he had been re-appointed as their parliamentary candidate in the target Vale of Glamorgan seat following a suspension while the slur was investigated by the party.”
