Don’t listen to talk of a March general election

Talk of the General Election being held in March 2010 is Conservative chatter, echoed by Tory-supporting newspapers in an attempt to destabilise Labour, the Mirror reports today:

Gordon Brown’s key allies have disclosed a March election is “simply not going to happen”. They insist the PM is focusing his intention on May 6, which is “very much the favoured polling date”.

Labour strategists say their battle plan is to raise as much cash as possible ahead of a May election.

One senior source said: “We would struggle to persuade thousands of our people to go out leafleting in the cold of February and early March.

“Everything is geared up towards an election in May. Most of the gossip about a March date was spread by David Cameron and the Tories in a failed attempt to destabilise us.”
