Tories delete recession remarks, but can’t hide their disdain

David Cameron pretends that he’s on your side in these hard times, but three of his top Tories have let the cat out of the bag about what Conservatives really think. When they’re caught out however they quickly backtrack.

The latest is Edward Leigh MP who wrote on a right-wing blog about Labour’s VAT cut:
“How will it help the poor to give them a few more pence off consumer items they don’t need?” That blog post has now been deleted.

Leigh’s comments came just days after Tory frontbencher Andrew Lansley was forced to apologise for writing on the Conservative’s own blog that the recession was “good for people” as they would eat, drink, and smoke less. That blog post too was quickly deleted.

When Tory party vice chairman John Maples told the House of Commons that the slump had “to run its course” regardless of the impact, he tried to take it back the next day, and must have wished he could have just deleted a blog article, but you can’t unsay what you’ve said and people shouldn’t delete these comments from their minds either.
