The Shadow Transport Secretary Theresa Villiers hasn’t missed a second in trying to blame the Labour Government for the recent icy weather: “Why is it that bad weather can so often bring our nation’s transport system to a grinding halt?” She asks rhetorically. But, as our article from Brent shows, it’s the local councils who are responsible for most of the roads, and many of us can testify that all has not gone well recently.
The vast majority of councils are Conservative of course, but Ms Villiers can rest assured that the Labour Government will be asking tough questions of councils, Conservative or otherwise, who’ve been rationing the grit needed on our roads.
Meanwhile the Shadow Transport Secretary might like to watch the Conservative Mayor of London storming out of a grilling by MPs after snow last hit the capital.
