Ben Bradshaw urges Lib Dems to vote down Vote Reform Bill

Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw and Cornwall Labour Party Chair Jude Robinson have urged local MPs to unite against the Voting Reform Bill, which will lead to the creation of a constituency crossing the Cornwall/Devon border.

Ben Bradshaw MP said: “The plans by the Government to fix constituencies without any consideration of natural or historic boundaries or any proper process of local appeal are completely unacceptable. South West Liberal Democrat MPs need to put their money where their mouths are and vote down such outrageous gerrymandering.”

Jude Robinson said: “Nick Clegg and David Cameron have cobbled together the boundary changes with voting reform to twist the arms of Lib Dem MPs to vote for this.

“It is a hard choice for Lib Dems, who want voting reform but it is not worth the breach of historic boundaries or riding roughshod over the wishes of local people. I hope our MPs in Cornwall will reconsider their support and vote against this Bill at the next opportunity to protect communities, as Ben has done.”
