Free school meals, £100 rebate for pensioners, concessionary fares and no more “propaganda press”

Labour’s Unitary Council candidates in Cornwall are pledging to campaign for free school meals for all Primary School children in the county and £100 rebate off council tax for pensioners.

Jude Robinson, Labour PPC for Camborne & Redruth, said:

“Cornwall Council should support those who need it most. We will be pushing for these policies at the Unitary Council.

“The recession is hitting families and the elderly hardest. Government has cut tax and given extra to pensioners. Locally, we can do more.

“Labour will investigate concessionary bus fares for low paid workers and other help with transport for elderly and disabled people in isolated rural areas.

“In the future, savings made by the new council structure should be used to bolster essential services, not to fund pet projects like the propaganda newspaper.

“Labour also wants a review of the management and ownership of Newquay Airport. During difficult economic times, it is wrong to expect the hard-pressed taxpayer to cough up millions of pounds to run a loss-making service. Newquay Airport must pay its way.

“The Liberal Democrats stopped listening when they took power in Cornwall and have been obsessed with their pet projects and priorities. Labour will be speaking up for local people.

“We have a strong platform for Cornwall and our candidates are out knocking on doors in Camborne, Redruth and Hayle talking and listening.”
