Jude Robinson has called on government and MPs of all parties to involve people in constitutional reform of Parliament and MPs’ expenses.
Jude said:
“On expenses, people just want MPs to be honest and not treat the public purse as their private piggy bank. But this has become part of the bigger issue about the outdated ‘gentleman’s club’ traditions of parliament and democracy.
“There are a lot of new PPCs, like me, who want a totally new approach to politics and transparency. That is why I was one of the first PPCs to sign up to the Progress campaign for a Citizens Convention.
“Nick Clegg’s call for all the reforms to be sorted out by MPs before they go back to constituencies is completely the wrong approach and David Cameron is promising little of substance except that he will consider everything after he is elected. I feel this is a turning point for our democracy and it should not be left to MPs to decide what happens or whether we have change at all.”
Jude’s views were published by Progress on their website and can be read here.
