Today is has been reported that Battersea power station developers have gone into receivership, just one day after Tory Mayor Boris Johnson and Tory Chancellor George Osborne posed in hard hats and promised Londoners that this company would deliver an extension of the Northern Line.
Ken Livingstone said; “Just two days ago George Osborne and Boris Johnson promised Londoners two new tube stations in South London. Today it is clear that promise has been broken after the Battersea power station developers were forced to call in the administrators putting plans for new stations in jeopardy.
“In its autumn statement the government refused to commit a single penny to new transport infrastructure projects, preferring to pin their hopes on private sector investment. That’s simply not good enough. London needs the full backing of the government and Mayor to get jobs and growth.
“The Tory Mayor and Tory Chancellor seem to prefer hollow spin over delivering transport investment for the long-term benefit of ordinary Londoners.”
