Ken Livingstone will spend Wednesday afternoon visiting two of the West End’s ‘hidden gems’, both of which face an uncertain future under redevelopment plans.
Ken is showing his support for the campaigns regarding Gaby’s Deli, on Charing Cross Road, and the Burlington Arcade on Piccadilly.
Ken Livingstone said: “We must be careful to put people first as London changes. Gaby’s Deli and the Burlington Arcade are different in many ways but linked by strong support for their campaign to remain a part of Londoners’ lives from all walks of life, even as the West End evolves around them.
“These are attractions which cater to people of all tastes and all pay packets, and are enjoyed by people living throughout London.
“To be a great city we need to get the big decisions right, but also wherever we can protect these unique gems, often hidden away, and loved by Londoners and visitors alike.
“If London is allowed to grow into nothing more than a sea of chain restaurants, the appealing character of London will be reduced in the long-term.”
