Labour in London issued a “Wanted” notice as the election campaign reached week four with the Tories’ policies for London still unpublished.
Last week Labour accused the Tories of being absent without leave after becoming the only party not to have published any dedicated policy document for London, and failed to give straight answers on safer neighbourhood teams and the future of Crossrail. They have held no London-wide launch of their general election and borough election campaigns.
Labour’s London Minister Tessa Jowell said: “Labour pointed last week to the fact that the Conservatives’ London policies were absent without leave and we are now in week four of the campaign without any further sign of the Tories being straight with Londoners. We are calling on them to publish their plans so that Londoners can take a long hard look at what they are saying.
“Even if the Conservatives now produce a London manifesto, its extreme lateness will highlight the problems Conservatives have faced when they have been put under real scrutiny in this campaign. From Boris Johnson’s police cuts, tube ticket office closures and the failure to guarantee the future of safer neighbourhood police teams, to the threat to Sure Start centres and the massive question mark the Conservatives have placed over Crossrail, the Tories will not protect London’s interests.
“The Conservatives have failed to set the agenda for London in this campaign and have been forced onto the defensive over police numbers, neighbourhood policing and transport investment such as Crossrail.”
