Tory London policy remains a mystery half way through election

Labour in London today said the Tories in London had gone absent without leave: over half way into the election campaign the Tories in London are the only party not to have published any dedicated policy document for London, have failed to give straight answers on safer neighbourhood teams and the future of Crossrail, and appeared to have held no London-wide launch of their general election and borough election campaigns.

They are the only major party not to publish dedicated policies for London.

Labour’s London Minister Tessa Jowell said: “It is now 17 days, over half way, into this campaign and the Conservative party is the only party not to have set out its offer to Londoners with any kind of dedicated London policy document.

“The Conservatives have failed to set the agenda for London in this campaign and have been forced onto the defensive over police numbers, neighbourhood policing and transport investment such as Crossrail.

“When tested the Tories’ policies for London do not stand up. With plans to cut police numbers, no guarantee for the future of London’s safer neighbourhood police teams, no commitment to complete Crossrail, rising bus fares and threats to Sure Start children’s centres it’s no wonder the Tories want to hide their policies away.

“If the Conservatives eventually get around to publishing their policies for London they will be subject to sharp scrutiny because people are now taking a long hard look at the Conservative party.”
