Medway Labour have expressed concern at the recent news that petrol stations in Medway have amongst the most expensive prices in the country for petrol.
This news comes as BP petrol stations, such as one at the Medway Services off junction 4 of the M2, are selling fuel at 151.9p a litre from Tuesday, with unleaded prices at 145.9p a litre.
Commenting Cllr Vince Maple, Deputy Leader of the Labour Group said; “Fuel campaigners are absolutely right to highlight that hard-pressed families are once again being hit with rising petrol prices. This is particularly unfair at a time when local residents are already struggling to balance household budgets.
“Medway Tory MPs need to lobby George Osborne to take action in his Budget against this price hike. For example, a temporary cut in VAT as proposed by Labour would give immediate relief to motorists by taking almost 3p off the price of a litre of petrol, and could help jump-start our stalled economy too.”
