The Conservatives’ threat to the Tram lines 2 and 3 could jeopardise jobs and investment in both the City and the County, claims Councillor Graham Chapman, Deputy Leader of the City Council:
“Not only does it put at risk the £450m investment in the tram itself, most of which would be Government funding, it also undermines job creation and inward investment of the sites along the proposed tram lines.”
These sites are:
(a) NG2 where some firms have already moved in anticipation of the Tram lines
(b) University campuses which will be connected
(c) the new Nottingham University development proposed for Triumph Road
(d) the Medipark proposals at the QMC where interest is already growing partly because of the tram
(e) the Business Park on University Boulevard
(f) the area around the station which has already attracted lots of potential investment, again because of the tram
Councillor Chapman said:
“The Conservatives policy is small-minded; it lacks ambition and vision. I really don’t think they have thought this through or understood what the implications are.”
