Plymouth Labour slam Tory cremation charge increase

Newly announced increases to charges for cremations in Plymouth once more show that the city’s Tory Council is totally determined to get every penny from local residents, even after death.

Increases from £450 to £495 with additional increases for associated services herald a new level of insensitivity by a Council that cares little for people’s ability to pay or when they are at their most vulnerable. With inflation below one percent, Conservative Plymouth plans a five percent increase for the bereaved.

Labour Councillor Mark Coker said:

“The Tories claim they are imposing this increase due to higher maintenance costs. This is an admission of mis-management on a colossal scale. As we enter a third year of Conservatives running Plymouth, more and more people can see their dreadful priorities. Any problems identified should be met from the Capital Budget, not from the pockets of grieving relatives.

“We don’t need to guess what life would be like under a Tory Government. We just need to look at Tory Plymouth. Benjamin Franklin said that only two things in this world are certain, death and taxes. It’s taken Plymouth’s Conservatives to prove it.”
