Back World Cup bid, says Owls fan Angela Smith MP

Sheffield Hillsborough MP gives her support to Sheffield’s bid to stage the 2018 World Cup in the City.

Owls fan Angela Smith MP joined forces with Brian Law, the Sheffield Wednesday manager, at the Owls opening match against Barnsley and called on South Yorkshire folk to back the bid to bring World Cup football to Sheffield in 2018.

To make sure Sheffield is one of the host cities people need to sign the online petition at www.england2018bid.com to prove that the people of Sheffield and South Yorkshire want to make every game a home game in 2018.

Commenting on the bid, Angela Smith said:

“Being an avid football fan there’s nothing I would like more than to see World Cup Football in Sheffield in 2018. Sheffield is England’s 4th largest city and home to the world’s oldest football club, Sheffield FC. This is where football started. We are well-placed to be one of the host cities but to make sure we need as many people as possible to sign up.

“Whether you’re an Owl, a Blade, a Tyke, a Miller or a Rover sign up and let’s make sure every game is a home game in 2018.I’ve added my name, now add yours.”

The England bid team want to show the world what we in England already know – that we’re fanatical about football and passionate about bringing the World Cup to England in 2018. Every fan in the country has a part to play.
