Sheffield Attercliffe MP Clive Betts has demanded a high-level meeting with Post Office managers in London following the temporary closure of Tinsley Post Office.
Clive Betts said:
“I have been in correspondence with the Post Office over many months about the problems of Tinsley Post Office, its very difficult location and the requests by the sub-postmaster for assistance in moving to more appropriately located premises.
“The Post Office has simply refused to recognise the problem and has done absolutely nothing to assist in ensuring the continuing viability of a Post Office in the Tinsley area.
“The Post Office management’s failure to come to the table to assist in finding a long-term solution has now led to the resignation of the sub-postmaster and the closure of Tinsley Post Office.
“I don’t believe this closure would have happened if they’d got involved when they were asked.”
The Post Office wrote to Clive Betts this week asking for his assistance in finding a new sub-postmaster, following the resignation of the sub-postmaster and the consequent closure of Tinsley Post Office.
Clive Betts continued:
“For the Post Office to write to me now looking for alternative candidates, when they have refused to recognise that this problem has existed over many months, is completely unacceptable.
“I have now demanded a high-level meeting with Post Office management in London to try to get them to focus on the real issues of location and premises.”
