Sheffield South East MP, Clive Betts, has welcomed the new proposals for Birch Avenue and Woodland View care homes.
Sheffield Primary Care Trust is now proposing that the homes are re-classified as ‘providing care for people with dementia with complex needs.’
Clive Betts has been involved with relatives of current residents of the homes in making representations against the PCT’s original proposals to withdraw £2.8m pa top-up funding from the homes.
Clive Betts said today: “I am delighted by the PCT’s change of mind. I hope that the revised proposals are strongly supported by the City Council, other NHS Trusts and local housing associations.
“As national reports have confirmed this week, the UK is going to experience a significant increase in demand for care and support for individuals suffering from dementia.
“There is going to be an increase in the number of those with complex needs. This change of heart by the PCT will see it well-placed to respond to this challenge.
“Many residents, relatives and staff have been extremely anxious since the PCT’s original proposal to withdraw the top-up funding. I am sure they will welcome this proposal.
“Relatives, in particular, have been measured, articulate and constructive in asking the PCT to look very closely at the scale of dependency and the consequent need for support of residents. They have also been extremely positive and complimentary about the quality of care currently provided.”
