Clive Betts MP celebrates 5th anniversary of the fox hunting ban

Sheffield Attercliffe MP, Clive Betts, is celebrating the 5th anniversary of the Royal Assent being given to the Fox-hunting Bill.

Clive Betts explained:

“Five years ago, I spent many hours listening to the blood-thirsty supporters of fox-hunting telling me that a ban would be ‘the end of civilisation’ and would result in thousands of horses and dogs having to be destroyed. Of course, as history has shown, none of that was true.

“In fact, the more I listened to the hunt supporters, the more convinced I became that banning fox-hunting was the right thing to do.

“Similarly, my constituents were also overwhelmingly in favour of the ban. If anything, their opposition to fox-hunting has become stronger over the years, with younger constituents being the most opposed.

“Their views are reflected in the latest polls which show that 75% of people are opposed to making fox-hunting legal again.

“It is absolutely astonishing that, with all the challenges facing the country, David Cameron’s Conservatives are giving the highest priority to a pledge to get rid of the ban.”
