Ed Balls, the Secretary of State for Children and Schools, has announced a £225,000 grant to Handsworth Grange School, Sheffield, as one of 75 sports colleges across the country which will share over £21 million in extra funding. The funding will have a specific focus on ensuring that sports pitches can be used in the evening and through the winter to improve their facilities with flood lights, artificial turf and new tented style sports halls.
Clive Betts MP (Sheffield Attercliffe) is delighted with the decision.
Clive said today:
“I have been actively lobbying Ministers for this scheme at Handsworth Grange School which will provide all-weather, artificial-turf pitches.
“It isn’t just the school which will benefit, but the whole community as the sports pitches can ensure use in the evenings and through the winter.”
