Labour calls for “People’s Post Offices” in Sheffield

Sheffield Labour welcome recent proposals from Government for a publicly-owned Post Office, or ‘People’s Bank’.

Since the economic downturn people do not seem to trust traditional high-street banks like they used to, unlike the Post Office which remains a trusted institution. Therefore, the government plans to expand the financial services on offer at the Post Office and create a ‘People’s Bank,’ allowing a wider access to financial services by the public.

Former Council Leader, Jan Wilson, said:

“I am happy to see that the Labour government have looked again at the real possibilities for the Post Office network and I certainly agree with this new vision for a People’s Bank.”

“People are fond of the Post Office because it has been around for years, providing good old fashioned face-to-face services and more often than not these are faces you know. Many people displayed their trust in the Post Office as a brand when moving their savings into its National Savings Account (NSA) due to the economic downturn and distrust in banks.”

Jan added:

“This show of support from the Labour Government now offers a double-hope in retaining the operations of Post Offices across the city. This fresh Labour initiative could mean a much brighter future for our Post Offices here in Sheffield and the rest of the country.”

  1. Jct: This great idea shows exhibits the Sparta effect. When visiting, your gold was deposited in the city bank for clay tokens used while in town and cashed out upon leaving. Sparta got the interest while trading went on with the clay chips.
If all bought stamps for cash, the state would get the interest while trading would go on with the stamp tokens.
Peg your local stamp currency to the Time Standard of Money (how many stamp-pounds/hour average labor) and Hours earned locally can be intertraded with other timebanks globally!
