Labour candidate blasts Clegg for ducking key local issue

Jack Scott, Labour’s candidate for Sheffield Hallam, has strongly criticised Nick Clegg MP for failing to meet parents and debate the future of a local school.

Mr. Scott wrote to Nick Clegg on 10th December. Mr. Scott invited Mr. Clegg to participate in a public debate with affected parents and the General Election candidates for Sheffield Hallam. Nick Clegg has refused to reply to Jack’s invitation.

Jack said “I have been approached by many parents – of Abbeydale School and all the other secondary and primary schools in Hallam – who are very concerned about the proposal to close Abbeydale Grange School. Parents of primary school children have told me that they realize that the closure of Abbeydale Grange will have considerable implications for their ability to secure their choice of secondary school in the future. It was the parents who wanted to have the opportunity to question the representatives of all the parties. Nick Clegg is denying them that opportunity.”

“I don’t mind that Mr. Clegg won’t reply to me. I do mind that he refuses to respond to local parents. I think they will draw their own conclusions about his attitude to their concerns.”
