MP welcomes new Workers’ Rights Helpline

Clive Betts MP (Sheffield Attercliffe) today welcomed the launch of a new confidential helpline providing help and advice on employment rights to both employers and employees.

Clive Betts said:

“Since my time as the government whip on the National Minimum Wage Bill, I’ve been an active supporter of a variety of measures to improve workers’ rights. These are also designed to protect good employers from the rogues.

“That’s why I’m welcoming the introduction of a new confidential helpline to provide help and advice on employment rights to both employers and employees.

“The Helpline provides advice about the minimum wage, holiday entitlements, the working-time directive and requests to work more than 48 hours a week, and the rights and obligations to which you’re entitled as an agency worker or paid by a gangmaster.

“If local people think a rogue employer is not playing fair, they should call the new helpline. They shouldn’t suffer in silence or be worried about reporting cheats; you don’t have to give your name or details if you don’t want to.”
