Sheffield Labour call for reassurances on Sheffield’s Parks

Labour are concerned that no assurances have yet been made by the Lib Dem Council confirming whether or not cuts will be made to Sheffield’s parks.

Labour can reveal that the proposed Lib Dem budget highlights that £70,000 worth of savings will be made within the Parks, Woodlands and Countryside Department. However, Labour has not been able to discover where the axe will fall.

Labour Spokesperson for Parks, Councillor Bryan Lodge, said:

“I understand how difficult the budget was for Parks and Countryside when Labour were in power last year, so I was very concerned when I saw the planned £70,000 in cuts required for next year.

“When Labour was in power we increased spending across the service because we regarded parks to be important. Worryingly, this Lib Dem budget appears to actually reduce investment.”

Bryan added:

“Labour is calling on the Lib Dems to ensure that the maintenance of our parks and open spaces will not suffer and to confirm whether park projects which have already been started, such as Weston Park and the Livability project, will be continued.”
