Sheffield Labour councillors accuse Lib Dems of hypocrisy

The Lib Dems have recently hit out at Labour for not securing enough funding when in power to complete improvements to fences on four Sheffield estates.

However, while they accuse Labour of leaving projects half-finished, the Lib Dem administration are currently consulting on two new projects in different areas of the city.

Labour can reveal that an £800,000 project is being consulted upon and a further £50,000 has been awarded to a consultancy to make plans for another area of the city.

Labour Housing Spokesperson, Councillor Chris Weldon, said:

“This is a brilliant example of Lib Dem hypocrisy. I don’t know how they have the cheek to blame us for this! They’ve been in power for six months now but continue to pass the buck onto Labour in order to cover-up their inadequacies. This is the coward’s way out.”

“The reality is that the Lib Dem Council need to get their priorities right. They have even started planning two new area improvement projects in other parts of the city. Why don’t they finish the existing ones first.”

Chris added:

“The Lib Dems must realise that they are the party in power now. Labour would never have let tenants suffer with a half finished improvements project. It seems the Lib Dems are beginning to realise how tough life is at the top.”
