Sheffield Lib Dems axe jobs and Council services

Labour can reveal that over one hundred jobs are to be lost at Sheffield City Council. Among planned cuts are posts in Activity Sheffield, which currently provide positive activities for young people.

The Council also plans to cut 250 jobs from Sheffield’s Care4You service, which supplies home care, city-wide alarms, resource centres and care homes.

Labour is committed to ensuring that cuts should not be made which harmfully affect council services.

Former Leader, Councillor Jan Wilson, said:

“The Lib Dem aim for 0% council tax rise is a good idea but it should not be at the expense of mass job losses, the Council simply cannot axe over one hundred jobs without its services being affected.

“I’m extremely concerned about plans to cut-back on services such as Activity Sheffield and Care4You. Activity Sheffield does a great job providing activities for youngsters, keeping them away from mischief, and keeping them fit and Care4You is an extremely important service providing care and support for the most some of the most vulnerable people in the city.”

Jan added:

“The Lib Dems promised to invest in improved services and they’re already cutting back. What hypocrites! With over one hundred jobs cut in one fell swoop how many more are to follow?”
