South Yorkshire MP celebrates Right to Roam legislation by stepping out

Keen walker Angela Smith MP steps out with walking group to advertise the benefits of walking.

Local South Yorkshire MP and keen walker Angela Smith recently joined a walk organised by the Sheffield Walking Group to advertise Get Walking Day.

This new group’s aim is to get young people, especially young families, involved in walking. Many of the walks are designed to allow young children and babies in prams to join in the fun.

The MP recently put down a Commons motion which has been signed by over 100 of her fellow colleagues which aimed to encourage people to get out in the country and start walking.

Commenting on the walk, Angela said:

“Walking is one of the best ways to exercise. Just 30 minutes a day gives someone the exercise they need to help keep away many diseases.

“As a keen rambler I would recommend this group to anyone, especially young families who want to explore the great outdoors. This group organises walks which are family- and pram- friendly and are ideal for those just starting out.

“One of the best pieces of legislation passed in the last ten years has been the Right to Roam. Also, everyone will shortly have the right of access to our coastal paths. So there has never been a better time to explore our great outdoors – I’d encourage everyone to take up walking, not only is it a good way to keep fit, it’s also great for the soul.”
