Paul Blomfield, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sheffield Central, has welcomed today’s announcement from the Government that funding has been granted to build a brand new youth centre in Sharrow. The new youth centre The People’s Place will provide high-quality sports and fitness, performing arts and multi-media facilities for young people aged 13-19 as well as facilities for training around education, employment and personal development. The project has been designed involving young people from Sharrow and will provide the facilities they want.
Paul Blomfield said:
“This announcement is excellent news. The People’s Place is going to be a fantastic new youth centre for teenagers and I’m delighted it’s coming to Sharrow. It will provide high-quality facilities for local young people so that they can get involved in the activities they want to. Whether that’s sports, digital media, cooking or performing arts, The People’s Place will provide what young people want and will even offer education and employment training. Gone are the days of youth clubs in dusty church halls that I remember going to.
“Labour is investing in youth facilities in our communities to ensure our young people get the facilities and services they want. What will be great about the new youth centre is that young people in Sharrow have been involved in choosing what facilities they want to meet their needs now, and in the future. It will be a safe place for young people to go to and use at the times that suit them, such as on Friday and Saturday nights.”
