Tinsley Postmaster furious with local Liberal Democrat Leader

Tinsley Post Office Sub-postmaster, Thair Iqbal, is furious with Liberal Democrat Leader Councillor Paul Scriven.

Thair Iqbal said:

“I’m furious about a leaflet about my post-office which has been put out by Councillor Scriven. The first I knew about the leaflet was when a customer came in with a copy.

Councillor Scriven – nor any other Liberal Democrat representative – has been in touch with me. He knows nothing about the particular issues here and he’s got his facts wrong. His actions smack of self-publicity and opportunism. They clearly have nothing to do with supporting me or securing and maintaining a viable Post Office in Tinsley.

There’s a strong contrast between this ill-informed opportunism and the informed commitment, support and help that I’ve been getting from Clive Betts and local Councillor Mazher Iqbal.”

Clive Betts MP, following discussions with Thair Iqbal and correspondence with the Post Office over many months, had been extremely critical of Post Office management’s failure to come to the table to assist in finding a long-term solution to the particular problems at Tinsley.

As a result, he had demanded an urgent high-level meeting with senior Post Office management.

Thair Iqbal continued:

“As a result of Clive’s actions and support, a top-level meeting with the Post Office Head for Northern England on 16th October. I’m really hopeful that that meeting might pave the way to a resolution and long-term solution.

My customers need to know that Tinsley Post Office is NOT closed. We’re OPEN for business.

I just hope that Councillor Scriven’s ill-informed actions haven’t damaged the business in the short- or long-term.”
