John Denham supports trust school plan

John Denham has declared his support for the bid by Chamberlayne College for the Arts to become part of a school trust.

The Labour MP for Southampton Itchen said:

“Becoming a member of Southampton Education Trust will enable Chamberlayne College to help a substantial number of students to access work placements which are personalised to their needs. It will offer all students access to high quality additional support opportunities to develop them as individuals.”

Chamberlayne College has applied to join Southampton Education Trust (SET) in partnership with other local schools Weston Park Junior, Weston Park Infants and Weston Shore Infants. The Southampton Education Trust includes the city’s two universities and commercial organisations including Associated British Ports, Ordnance Survey and VT Group plc.

John Denham continued:

“Being part of SET would help the College students to explore both their creative and entrepreneurial skills by working with SET partners from the business and academic worlds. I think this is essential in helping young people move into the workplace or in encouraging them to apply for university.”
