Southampton Itchen Labour MP John Denham will be in Mayflower Park, Southampton on Saturday 4 July to greet an asbestos awareness team of cyclists when they complete the final leg of their journey from Glasgow.
The 1200 mile journey started on 20 June and is due to arrive in Southampton on 4 July. On the way, the three cyclists will have visited many of the towns across the UK most affected by the asbestos-related cancer mesothelioma.
Specialist asbestos solicitors Katrina London from Irwin Mitchell, Paul Glanville from John Pickering & Partners and campaigner Jason Addy are about to complete the gruelling 1,200-mile bike ride from Glasgow to Southampton in a bid to raise awareness of the plight of asbestos-related cancer sufferers and to support the call for a national research centre.
John Denham said:
“Southampton is one of the areas particularly hit by asbestos-related disease owing to our former industries such as shipbuilding. I’ve campaigned over the years for better treatment for asbestos-related conditions and will be pleased to welcome these cyclists when they reach our city.”
