Southampton Labour officially adopt their candidates

John Denham and Alan Whitehead officially launch their campaign.

At a meeting at St Mary’s Stadium tonight, Southampton Labour Party will officially ‘adopt’ long-standing representatives John Denham and Alan Whitehead as their Parliamentary candidates for Southampton Itchen and Southampton Test respectively.

Mr Denham said: “Our campaign in Southampton has been well under-way for many months now, but has stepped up a gear since the Prime Minister called the election last week.

“With the polls narrowing it’s clear that people are beginning to take a long hard look at the Tories, so we’ll be fighting hard to make sure Southampton stays Labour.”

Dr Whitehead said: “There’s a real choice at this election: investing in schools and housing and green jobs with Labour, or Tory tax cuts for the rich that would kill the economic recovery. Unlike the Tories, we won’t take a single voter for granted. We’ll fight hard every day; not just for Labour, but for a fairer future for everyone in Southampton.”
