Southampton Test MP Alan Whitehead has backed the Warm Homes Campaign in Southampton to ensure everyone can afford to keep warm this winter.
Dr Whitehead met energy advisors at Newtown Health Clinic as part of the campaign to ensure everyone knows about the help available for those struggling to pay their fuel bills.
The Warm Homes Campaign is a national campaign that aims to cut the number of deaths during the winter, reduce cold-related illnesses and reduce instances of fuel debt by raising awareness of the help available to people who cannot afford to heat their homes in winter.
The Southampton campaign is being spear-headed by Southampton’s Environment Centre. The national campaign is organised by fuel poverty charities National Energy Action (NEA) and Energy Action Scotland (EAS) in association with Scottish Power, and is supported by the Department of Energy and Climate Change. A range of events and activities are taking place in support of the campaign to make people aware of the role that energy efficiency can play in making homes warmer, more comfortable and less expensive to heat.
Dr Whitehead said:
“I’ve made it a top priority in my work in Southampton and in Parliament to ensure more local residents get the help they need to reduce their energy bills. I strongly back the Warm Homes campaign and congratulate the Southampton Environment Centre for their work this winter.”
Any residents in Southampton who may have trouble keeping warm this winter to contact the Home Heat Helpline on 0800 33 66 99 or the Southampton Environment Centre on 0800 804 8601 to find out more about government grants available to help you heat your home.
