Liam Byrne MP, Labour’s Chief Secretary to the Treasury, commenting on David Cameron’s speech today, said:
“I am determined that every penny of public money goes to front-line services. I’ve ordered a review of what public bodies do, and how they do it, to feed into the pre-Budget report in November.
“This review builds on our ongoing efficiency programmes which will deliver £35 bn of savings by 2011.
“Today, David Cameron’s Shadow Chief Secretary couldn’t deny that his own Party has clear plans for many more, not fewer quangos.”
