“Complete opportunism from the Conservatives” – Timms

Stephen Timms, Labour’s Financial Secretary to the Treasury – responding to David Cameron’s comments on the Politics Show, about the merger of HBOS – said:

“The attack on the merger is complete opportunism from the Conservatives.

“At the time, Ken Clarke, George Osborne and David Cameron all voted in favour of suspending the competition rules to allow the merger to go ahead.

“HBOS was facing very difficult circumstances and if the merger hadn’t taken place, then the situation would have been far worse.”
