Former ITV chief appointed to lead Labour Party management review

Ed Miliband MP, Leader of the Labour Party, and the new General Secretary, Iain McNicol, have asked businessman Charles Allen to oversee a management and commercial review of the Labour Party.

The review will look at how the party is organised. It will make recommendations to put the party on the most professional and sustainable footing ahead of the next general election.

Charles Allen is an experienced business leader, as former CEO of ITV and chairman of EMI. He also has extensive experience in the public sector with senior roles on the Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games, as well as for the Home Office.

Ed Miliband said: “These are exciting times for the Labour Party. The recent announcement that Ian McNicol will be our next General Secretary is fantastic news.

“And Charles Allen’s new role, bringing his huge experience to help us build a stronger Labour Party, represents further progress.

“I look forward to working with them both in the months ahead.”

Iain McNicol said: “Charles is a long-standing supporter and friend of the Labour Party, as well as an experienced and successful businessman. His expertise in both private and public sectors will help us to build the stronger organisation Ed and I want to see.”

Charles Allen said: “I am delighted to be asked to conduct this review and to play my part in developing a strong and effective party, built on the foundations of strong grassroots support.”
