Glenis will provide excellent leadership of EPLP – Brown

The Labour Party would like to take the opportunity to welcome and congratulate Glenis Willmott MEP, who has today been elected as new leader of the European Parliamentary Labour Party (EPLP).

Glenis becomes leader at a challenging and important time, ensuring she leads the EPLP through the European Elections in June, and working hard with Labour MEPs to help the people of Britain through the tough economic downturn.

Glenis Willmott MEP, said:

“I feel privileged to have been elected to lead the party. Europe has such an important part to play in making our everyday lives better and we have already achieved so much by working together.

“It is an honour to take the helm and help build on those achievements in the run-up to the European elections in June and beyond.”

Gordon Brown MP, Leader of the Labour Party said:

“I want to congratulate Glenis Willmott MEP on her election today to the leadership of the European Parliamentary Labour Party. Glenis will provide excellent leadership of the EPLP as they continue to work hard for a progressive future for the EU, and I look forward to working with her as we prepare for the European election campaign in June.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the outstanding work done by Gary Titley MEP who has held the post of EPLP Leader for the last six years.”

Gary Titley MEP, will formally step down today as EPLP leader, after serving over six successful years in the role. The Labour Party would like to thank and congratulate Gary on leading the EPLP, who has vigorously fought in Europe on the issues of jobs, gun crime, climate change, and fairer opportunities and chances for all.
