No trust in Tory treasury team on axing middle-earners’ tax credits

Liam Byrne MP, Labour’s Chief Secretary to the Treasury, responding to George Osborne’s plans to cut tax credits for middle earners today said:

“George Osborne or his deputy are either deceiving us on axing middle-earners’ tax credits – or they’re each pursuing completely different policies.

“Philip Hammond has promised to save £400 million from cutting back tax credits. But George Osborne says their plans won’t affect families on incomes of as little as £31,000. Given its impossible for both statements to be true at the same time, as the House of Commons has been told, one of them has got to be wrong. Who is it?

“I’m afraid this is fresh evidence for why you can’t trust David Cameron and George Osborne as far as you could throw them.”

I live in Newquay Cornwall and have been plagued with mailshots from both the Conservative and Lib-Dem candidates and absolutely nothing from Labour. Further I can find no mention anywhere of a Labour candidate for my area. Is there one or have Labour given up on my area? I want to vote Labour at the election although it seems Labour MP’s in Cornwall are in danger of becoming extinct. The thought of a Conservative Government is horrifying. Am I once more being forced to vote Liberal to prevent that? As a Labour voter I feel let down. No party has done more to promote social justice. We cannot afford to let the Conservatives get into power. I remember well the years under them when interest on my mortgage was at 15% and prices rose almost on a weekly basis.
