Labour yesterday released an analysis of “Ten Myths from David Cameron on Inequality” in an attempt to cut through Tory rhetoric and provide the media with hard facts which, it is hoped, will help put the Conservatives on the defensive.
Liam Byrne MP, Labour’s Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said:
“David Cameron argues that the Conservatives are better placed to fight both inequality and poverty. Yet his speeches on the issue are full of distortions and total inaccuracies.
“David Cameron needs to learn that tackling inequality needs more than fine words – it needs action.
“Labour has made real progress in tackling inequality in the last twelve years, in the face of Tory opposition. Our policies would continue the fight against poverty, while the policies of George Osborne and David Cameron risk setting us back decades.”
The document provides detailed rebuttals of claims recently made by the Conservative frontbench and isn’t currently available to the public.
UPDATE: Liam Byrne MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, has published the document on his blog.
